January Wrap Up

I'm so happy that January has come to an end. I had great intentions for this month since it's the start of a new year it has such promise, but sometimes things just don't work out the way you hope for. I'm ok with that though, this past month was one of the most challenging for me but I got through it. That is something to be happy about.
January seemed to have drama creeping around every corner, with the help of the Polar Bear (the card I pulled for this month) I was able to be upfront and honest in situations. I got to express myself from a place of power with focus.
With everything going on this month I had many creative projects that I had started but was unable to finish, so I wasn't able to post any "crafts". I plan on continuing on with these projects into February with a fresh perspective and hopefully they will turn out better.

Space: Playroom Inspiration

This "space" post is inspired by my busy busy life, I have been caring for my little niece Sophie during the days since January began. My sister in-law just finished her maternity leave and is back to work part-time, so I have been taking care of her little lady alongside my little man. It has been a challenge, a 6 month old and a one year old is hard work.

They are both at such different stages even though they are only 6 months apart. My little man is starting solid foods and teething, in other words needs mama's full attention. Sophie is very mobile - learning to walk and eating regular meals, also needing my full attention. This has been tricky because I only have one highchair so I have to alternate them, and I have yet to baby proof my house (because Ray isn't crawling yet). It's good practice for me because I would like another baby (or 2) when Ray is older of course, so I do need to learn how to divide my time and attention with each baby.

It has been a lot harder than I expected, so next month I have requested to only watch my niece one day a week. I would like to help out my sister in-law, but I really need to focus on Ray at this stage. Maybe a little further down the road I can try it again when they are both a little older and I have more practice under my belt.

This brings me to this space inspiration, Playrooms! My place is small, I wish for a space for kids to play and learn (and not trash my living room). I have put together a few images from Pinterest of spaces I love and how I would like my future playroom to look. A place to read books, play games, do arts and crafts, and be a kid!

The start of a new year always makes me want to start fresh and be my best self. This year, for some reason, this feeling is stronger than ever. Maybe it's because my life is exactly where I want it to be in this moment. I feel completely happy and this coming year looks unbelievably bright.

I have decided on key words to live by for this year.
 Explore. Thrive. Create. Flourish

Every year, like everyone else, I set goals. There are always the ongoing goals: getting in shape, eat clean and being healthy yada yada yada. I, of course, will try my best with this. But this year I am trying something new with specific creative things I would like to accomplish.

1. Start Art Journaling- Starting with a baby book for Ray
My mom made one for me, I just love looking back and reading about the milestones and how I was as a baby. Although I do take the monthly baby photos I would like something to record all the little things as well.

2. Get that screen printer up and running - make some sweet t-shirt prints
I received this as a gift LAST Christmas and because of lack of space and the whole being busy with pregnancy and having a baby, it went right into the closet. I will bring this out and make awesome things.

3. Renovate our Camper Van
Josh started this project in the fall with the interior demo - and this Spring we plan to get it looking fresh so we can take some summer road trips and get some camping in.

These are my main projects, I have other small projects I would like to do as well but these are the big three.

I expect good things out of 2014.

6 Months!

1/2 a year old today! I can't believe how much growing this kid has done in just a month. He is rolling over and stays sitting up on his own.
We've also just started introducing solid foods, I have given him a little rice cereal here and there and this week we started feeding him avocado.
I received a Baby Bullet at my shower and I just love using it, I really do not want to give him baby food from a jar. While this may work for some parents it's very convenient and I have seen a lot of organic selections, I just prefer to go the unprocessed route and prepare his food myself.
I have the privilege of staying home with him so I have lots of time to make up batches of baby food.

Now that the holidays are over we've been spending a lot of family time together just the 3 of us. With all this cold weather lately, Josh hasn't been working much so that means he gets to stay home with us Yay! We had gotten Ray a little baby sled for Christmas and we've been putting it to good use, going for walks and exploring hidden gems here in the city. Here are a few photos of us going for little walks around town.

January Polar Bear

This is the first card of the new year and it seems to coincide with my feelings and worries about going into 2014.

The Polar Bear asks to stand up for yourself and speak your truth respectfully and compassionately, with no attachment to the outcome.

He goes on to explain we should set boundaries with others, and that it's ok to say "no" to requests and demands. We must be strong and stand our ground.

I am not going to go into too much detail how this applies to my month because this is a powerfully personal card, but I will say I hope this helps me maintain power and purity. I plan to not let myself feel pressured or pushed around. I will practice self-control and speak up when I feel necessary.
